My coord for our Museum Meet! JSK and Headbow are AATP, shoes are Candy Stripper, everything else is offbrand. The wig…was a $2 Goodwill purchase. I’m secretly very proud of it (I love oldschool ringlet wigs!). It’s a little messy-looking in person but photographs SO well. <3

I’m not going to comment on your coord or the art piece in question, but facing yourself as a focal point in front of the piece and using it as a backdrop is pretty fucking rude to the artist. Oh yeah it might match your outfit woo hoo. You do not climb on statues (unless directed as interactive) and you do not take a photo of yourself, using a painting as a backdrop and obscuring the piece. If you were at a concert, would you turn to the rest of the audience when people were giving applause and start to bow? Or sing along at the opera? I hope not. You may think it’s just a graphic “pretty piece”, but honestly your thoughts about it’s quality is not important in this. You made THIS ARTIST’S PIECE to be about YOUR OUTFIT which is not ok, unless you’ve gained approval from the artist. I know a lot of lolitas think the world is just one huge backdrop for their vapid outfit snaps, such as churches and graveyards, but there ARE places, where, at least if you want to be a well-mannered human being, you have to show proper respect. As an artist I have to tell you this. You might think I’m being rude to you now, with my choice of language, but you were being just as rude to the original artist albeit in a much subtler way, and it really pissed me off.

Personally I really like the juxtaposition of art and fashion. I’ve had artwork displayed in museums before and I wouldn’t mind someone posing infront of my work. It shows they liked it enough to capture it and somewhat turn it into a new piece of art. :)

The only one I see being disrespectful here is you, hexele. Dismissing an entire group’s activities as vapid and ill-mannered is the height of rudeness. Besides that, your inherently narcissistic assumption that every artist feels the same way about the usage of their work is downright silly, as is your assumption that the OP only valued it as a “pretty piece” and that she does not appreciate it or it’s quality as deeply as you do, and you shouldn’t speak for others just because you have a vendetta.
Missallieegl, your coordinate is lovely, and I’m so jealous you got such a lovely wig so cheaply. You look gorgeous.

Y’all asses better shut the fuck up and listen here. Art is meant to be interactive. You are meant to be inspired by art, use art, and to give credit where credit is due. I don’t know ANY artist who says “Wow, I want this hung in a gallery, but no one can use it in any other way. It is just meant to stand there.” No artist in their right mind would say this, do you fuckin’ know why? Because then it isn’t art, then it’s just pretty colors and shapes on a piece of treated fabric.
If I had a hundred paintings in a gallery or just one, I want someone to look at it and go “Well goddamn! This matches my clothing! This would make a great photo!” Did they say “Wow, I’m gonna use this to make money and credit everything to myself!” No. They continued art, they help art breathe and thrive. This lovely girl right here used another’s art to further her own art. I applaud her and if I was the artist, I’d like her input about how she felt about the piece and how she felt it added to the photo. Would I be upset she took a photo with it? No. Would I be upset that someone is putting my art on a pedestal and asking no one to be inspired? Yes. When haven’t you heard a song, and thought of a music video? When haven’t you read a book, and planned the movie?
To treat art as something that isn’t allowed to be an inspiration is to treat it like you described. You’re the one who is ruining the artist, and hurting the artist. This artist put their art in a gallery to be viewed. They put it there to show the masses what art is. Art is this photo, art is the next blossoming lolita who wants to someday look like this girl. You cannot say this is art. This is art. All of this is art, even my words being screamed at you is a piece of art. You telling someone off because of their art? That is the blanket that covers imagination. That is the horror that burns down the museum. That is what causes the young artist to say “Oh….maybe I’ll do something different.” You would be the cause of an Earth without art.
Then you proceed to call this girl ill-mannered. No, she is not ill-mannered. The only problem I would have with this whole thing is that personally, I believe she is too close to the picture itself. We don’t know if she pushed people out of the way. Though I do know that most people who walked by might have taken their own photos, waited to take a photo, or possibly asked this lovely young flower about her outfit, about why she just took that photo. She just spread art, and now you are burning it to ashes.
My name is Mercedes. I am an artist, I am a painter, I am a dreamer. I will not stand for someone tearing down another artist. I will not stand another person telling someone what they are doing is not art. I will not stand for it. I will never stand for it.
Art is life, art is air, art is the water in the river. Art is not telling someone what they can and cannot do. Then art has become oppression.

This comment above is completely beautiful and I agree with it so much. In fact, a lot of the comments on this were just so perfect and I’m seriously glad to hear the opinions of people who experience art in this way.

This girl is lovely, the comments by the people supporting her are nearly as lovely as she is.

Blue 10th Dcotor Lolita by nicky397 featuring a pave bangle
I want to put together a Doctor Who coord, decided to base it on the 10th doctor in his blue suite because I already have a blue dress and shoes that reassemble converse. Just went on polyvore for inspiration and ended up creating an account and spending a couple of hours making a set…
Really annoying that polyvore won’t let you use items from etsy. Most of the accessories I would put with this are from etsy -.-

I dare say I need a blue JSK and a brown Bolero now…
